Participants and spectators alike can step back in time at the 40th annual Britt Draft Horse Show, September 3-5 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds.
September 4th is designated throwback day when everyone is asked to wear their best clothing from the early 1980s.
“We ask all defendants to dress in their best 1980s attire,” said Melodie Hiscocks, secretary / treasurer and one of eight. “We hope for a normal, traditional show this year. We feel very blessed that it has been 40 years. It was believed that it would be a year or two when this started in 1982.
She said the commercial building is home to numerous historical items from the first Britt Draft Horse Show. There will also be a vintage slideshow with lots of historical photos for people to enjoy.
The show will feature 18 of the best draft horse couplings. Belgian, Percheron, Shire, and Clydesdale breeds will come together from Iowa, Utah, Colorado, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Oregon, and Missouri, as well as Canada and Germany.
The gates open at 7 a.m. every morning so that spectators can watch the teams prepare the horses for competition. Tests are carried out in the women’s car, men’s car, team, unicorn, four-in-hand and six-in-hand car classes.
On September 3rd at 6 p.m. there will be a youth and amateur show as well as a four-hook competition for seniors. Draft horse grandstand shows will be held on September 4 and 5, starting at 2 p.m.
