The opening race on the map can go to the Hugo Palmer trained MARGARET DUMONT (NAP – 1-point win bet on 3/1). Palmer has his string at its best after sending six winners and seven placed horses from just 24 runners in the past 14 days. This filly built on promising placings in Wolverhampton and Newcastle (second place in the Northumberland Vase over this distance) to finish in Goodwood two starts back a very respectable sixth place in a competitive handicap of 20 runners. Tipped 50/1 that day, she didn’t have a flawless run, but finished the race well and almost took a place. She then competed in the Colwick Cup in Nottingham and was not embarrassed on faster than ideal ground. Cheek pieces that were first worn in Nottingham have survived to this day. Three of her last four starts have been in higher classes and she should enjoy this return to Tapeta. It’s only 1 pound higher than it was in June when it did so well here, and Tom Marquand is an eye-catching jockey booking.
