SHIPSHEWANA – The gentle giants are back in Shipshewana this weekend, dressed in their best for an important pre-draft horse show.

The Michiana Events Center, the MEC, is hosting a Midwest Draft Horse Classic Show and Pull. The Friday / Saturday event gives draft horse owners the opportunity to showcase their horses in multiple sections, including a six horse hitch. The winning teams will receive points which they hope will secure a spot in the World Final Six-Horse Hitch Championship Show this fall. This event will also take place in September at the MEC.

Teams from across the Midwest and Canada brought their best to Shipshewana for the June 25-26 event to compete in a variety of different categories including youth car, men’s, women’s, four- and six-horse trailers. The event also features a heavyweight horse train, as well as light weight and pony trains.

The show starts today at 8 a.m. with the youth jury, followed by a four horse hitch competition, a men’s car competition, and a women’s car competition.

A heavyweight horse train starts at 1:30 p.m. The highlight of the show, the Six Horse Hitch Show, begins at 5:30 p.m. in the main arena of the MEC.

Tickets are available at the box office.
